UNE –
TRAFFIC AND PARKING POLICY
For the purposes of Traffic and Parking management, UNE’s Academic
Campus, Residential College Areas and Sporting Area are categorised as
Restricted Parking Areas in terms as provided by the Road Transport (General)
Act 1999, Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Road Rules Regulations
1999 and Road Transport (Penalty Notices and Short Descriptions of Offences)
Regulation 1999.
Permit parking and Casual parking will be enforced for the duration of
the conference throughout the UNE Campus – Monday to Friday 8.00
AM – 4.30 PM, exclusive of Public Holidays.
Conference delegates who are residing in College and who park in the carparks
in the UNE Residential areas will be issued with a complimentary resident
visitor permit at the college office.
Visitors who park a motor vehicle (including motor cycle) on the Campus
are required to park in Casual car-parking (dark blue) areas and to pay
a Parking fee. Single day/half day permits ($4.00/$2.00) may be purchased
from coin-operated vending machines, which are located in casual signed
parking (dark blue) areas and major car parks on the Campus. The permit
must be clearly displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle. Failure to
pay the prescribed fee or parking other than in a General parking bay
may result in a fine being issued.
TRAVEL
Armidale is situated on the New England Tablelands, 510
km north of Sydney, 462 km south of Brisbane and 190 km west of Coffs
Harbour. It is the intersection of the New England Highway, a main road
link between Sydney and Brisbane, and the Grafton Road (Main Route 78),
which runs east to the Pacific Highway near Coffs Harbour.
Armidale has its own commercial airport at the outskirts of the City,
approximately 8 km from the Central Business Area. Qantas provide at least
twice daily services to and from Sydney. All major coach lines also service
the City. The State Rail Authority runs a daily service to and from Sydney.
CLIMATE
Surrounded by spectacular mountains and awe-inspiring gorges,
the City enjoys the benefit of a mild climate with four distinct seasons.
Armidale’s annual rainfall of 793 mm is summer-dominant, with an
average monthly rainfall of 88 mm in December (10 rain days per month).
Mean daily minimum and maximum temperatures in December are 12°C and
26°C. Come prepared with long pants and a jumper or jacket for evening
wear, and an umbrella.
