The Location

This is the first time in over thirty years that the ESA annual conference has been held in Sydney, and The University of Sydney is proud to welcome you to our campus.

The University of Sydney, founded in 1850, is Australia's first university, and has an international reputation for outstanding teaching, as a centre of research excellence and as an active and engaged community leader. The university is placed within the top 40 universities in the world, according to the UK’s Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) World University Rankings published in October 2006.

ESA'08 is being held on the main Camperdown-Darlington campus. This leafy, beautiful 72-hectare site, located near the junction of Parramatta and City Roads, features landscaped grounds, sports ovals and centres, museums, galleries, two major complexes devoted to student recreation and services, and of course the famous Quadrangle and many other beautiful historic and modern buildings.

The conference venue is the Eastern Avenue Complex and nearby Carslaw lecture theatres, which are located immediately adjacent to each other. A campus map and local bus information is available here.

For more general photographs of the Camperdown-Darlington campus, follow this link. The main University of Sydney website will give you general information about the academic life and structure of the university.

The uni is surrounded by great restaurants and pubs in the lively suburbs of Glebe and Newtown, within 10-15 minutes walk of the conference venue.
