Standard spoken papers
Time slots for standard spoken papers are 15 minutes. Given that a talk cannot start immediately when the previous one finishes, this roughly equates to a 12 minute talk
and 3 minute question time/changeover. Session Chairs will be instructed to ensure that ALL presenters adhere strictly to these times. Speakers will be gently warned
when the talk reaches the 10 minute mark, and courteously but firmly invited to cease at the 12 minute mark.
The standard presentation format is Powerpoint ®, presented via a data projector on an IBM Laptop configured with Windows-XP and MS Office 2003. If your talk requires any other form of audiovisual equipment, please advise the Secretariat at least 24 hours before your presentation is due. Presentations should be brought to the Conference on CD or memory stick, and loaded onto the computer in your designated conference room in the break immediately before your session commences or earlier.
Please make sure your presentation is saved in the Powerpoint ® 1999-2003 format. More recent Powerpoint versions cannot be accommodated.
Please arrange to be in your presentation room at least 15 minutes before your session time so that your Session Chair can acquaint you with the equipment and run over the timing procedure.
If you are presenting in the Speed Session, refer to its Instructions to Presenters.
Speed session spoken papers
NOTE: Students may present a speed paper, but are NOT eligible for a student prize. If you wish to be eligible, you must either present a standard spoken paper or a poster.
This year we are introducing an hour long speed session on Tuesday afternoon. The idea of this session is to present a short, pithy interesting highlight of your research and /or introduce a new or controversial ecological perspective or opinion. There will be no time for questions after each talk, but there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion in a 45 min period after the talks.
Time slots for speed session spoken papers are 5 minutes. Please prepare for 4 mins, allowing 1 min. for changeover. Session Chairs will be instructed to ensure that ALL presenters adhere strictly to these times. Speakers will be gently warned when the talk reaches the 3 minute mark, and courteously but firmly invited to cease at the 4 minute mark.

Posters
The poster protocol for the conference will be as follows:
- Posters should be mounted at morning tea on Monday ready for the Monday evening poster session (Monday 1st December 17:30 – 19:00)
- The venue for the posters is the Terrace Buffet on level 4 of the Wentworth Building (3 min walk from the presentation venues). It will be used for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea throughout the conference.
- Abstracts of poster content will be required and included in the conference
program and abstracts distributed to all delegates. - You’ll be encouraged to also be close to your poster during morning and
afternoon tea breaks, to enable anyone who wishes to discuss your particular
poster topic, to find you and do so! - You’ll thus have several hours of opportunity / exposure during the
conference, and we believe that this will give you the widest audience.
To assist you in preparing your poster, we will provide a Velcro-receptive panel on which to mount your poster, whose dimensions should be (max) 1.5m high x 1.2m wide. Posters should be mounted by the presenter, on the morning of Monday 1st December 2008. A directory to posters will be included in the Conference Handbook.
Secretariat staff will help you find your space and assist you with mounting your poster, please bring your own Velcro spots or pins.
Please ensure that posters are collected by the end of the Conference, as those not collected will be discarded.
