One-Day Post-graduate Course: Sunday 30th November


This will be run by Prof. Mark Westoby on Current Ecology and Evolution on Sunday 30th November, the day before the conference begins and in the same location at the University of Sydney. Provisional speakers are Dr Ian Watson (CSIRO), Dr Don Driscoll (ANU), Dr Molly Whalen (Flinders University), Dr Peter Spooner (Charles Sturt University), Dr Mariella Herberstein (Macquarie University), Dr Jenny Martin (University of Melbourne) and Prof. Mark Burgman (University of Melbourne). Student Travel Grants — Conference attendance

ESA encourages student attendance at its annual conference with Student Travel Grants. The applications for student travel grants for ESA08 closed on 28 July 2008. For information about travel to future ESA conferences please visit the ESA homepage.

 

Student Prizes

ESA student members are eligible for a wide range of prizes by presenting a poster or paper at the ESA Annual Conference. These are:

  • ESA Marilyn Fox Award for best inaugural presentation at a conference
  • ESA Best spoken paper at the conference
  • ESA Best paper by member of NZES and runner-up best spoken paper at the conference
  • ESA Best poster
  • ESA Runner up best poster
  • Blackwell/EMR prize for a spoken presentation on management or restoration
  • Blackwell/EMR prize for a poster presentation on management or restoration
  • Society for Conservation Biology Prize for a spoken paper on conservation
  • Australian Flora Foundation prize for a spoken paper on the biology or cultivation of an Australian plant

Winners are announced at the closing ceremony of the conference and presented with their prize. ESA invites winners to submit their abstract for inclusion on the ESA website. Make sure you indicate your student status when submitting your abstract. Note also that if you wish to be eligible for a student prize DO NOT register to present a speed talk.
